Bhutan Airlines Introduces Fixed Departure Flights Between
Malaysia and Bhutan

In a significant move aimed at enhancing connectivity and tourism between Bhutan and Malaysia, Bhutan Airlines, a subsidiary of Tashi Air Pvt. Ltd., announced the launch of fixed departure flights connecting the two countries. The official announcement was made on recently during a gala event in Kuala Lumpur, attended by over 100 travel agents and industry stakeholders. The first flight is scheduled for 20th December 2024.

This development will offer travelers a reliable and convenient option to explore Bhutan, a country renowned for its rich cultural heritage and unique environmental policies. Present at the event were prominent figures, including the Deputy Chairman of Tourism Malaysia and representatives from the Department of Tourism Bhutan, Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, and other key tourism partners.

Speaking at the event, Pema Nadik, CEO of Bhutan Airlines, emphasized the airline’s mission to promote Bhutan’s unparalleled beauty and sustainable tourism. “Bhutan is known for its unique traditions and is a carbon-negative country. We are excited to facilitate travel between Malaysia and Bhutan, allowing more people to experience Bhutan’s unparalleled beauty and cultural heritage,” he said.

The inaugural flight on 20th December 2024, marks a milestone for both Bhutan Airlines and the growing tourism ties between the two countries. Tickets for these flights are already available on the airline’s official website. Nadik further expressed that this new route will not only strengthen tourism ties but also significantly reduce travel time, making Bhutan more accessible to Malaysian travelers.

Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin, Deputy Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, also highlighted the economic significance of air connectivity. “Air connectivity is key to unlocking a country’s economic growth potential, in part because it enables the country to attract business investment and human capital,” he noted. “An increase in air connectivity also spurs tourism, which is vital to many countries’ economic prosperity.”

This new route follows Bhutan Airlines’ successful launch of fixed departure flights from Vietnam starting January 2025, as well as flights from Mumbai and Bengaluru, India, earlier this year.
