Qatar Airways Has Launched New Business Class Menu by Celebrity Chef Wan in Celebration of the Airline’s 25th Anniversary
Business Class passengers can choose new Malaysian dishes on the Kuala Lumpur – Doha service from July 2022
Qatar Airways has partnered with Malaysian celebrity chef icon, Chef Wan, unveiling a new Business Class menu. Starting July 2022, the indulgent menu of delicious, locally-inspired meals will be available to Business Class passengers departing from Kuala Lumpur for Doha.
On 23 June, Qatar Airways hosted an exclusive food tasting session with members of the media and social media influencers. Much to the delight of its guests, Chef Wan held a cooking demonstration of his famous Nyonya Curry Laksa which instantly became the crowd’s favourite.
Qatar Airways celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and as the winner of Skytrax World’s Best Business Class Onboard Catering 2021, the airline continues to evolve its onboard meal offerings with exciting culinary collaborations with celebrity chefs and dining establishments worldwide.
Qatar Airways Vice President of Catering Services, Mr Shashank Bhardwaj, said: “As the only airline in the world to have won the prestigious Skytrax Airline of the Year six times, Qatar Airways is committed to providing the best inflight experience. Ensuring our inflight meals are memorable is definitely a key focus, and it’s especially important for a country with a rich food heritage like Malaysia. We are thrilled to collaborate with Malaysia’s culinary pride and joy, Chef Wan, as having his signature dishes available onboard our Business Class is definitely another great reason to fly with Qatar Airways.”
Chef Wan said: “Working with Qatar Airways is an honour as it means working with the world’s best airline. The airline’s commitment to serving high quality food is unparalleled, evident from the multiple awards Qatar Airways has received. We have taken great care to present Malaysian cuisine on a global platform, and I hope the dishes will give passengers a lasting memory of Malaysia. I’m also glad to have the chance to pay homage to traditional Malaysian cuisine and share the Malaysian food culture that I hold so dear to my heart to international travellers through the world’s best airline.”
Chef Wan’s menu features classic Malay cooking techniques and traditional Malaysian flavours. Highlights include charcoal-grilled fish fillet with spicy Portuguese sauce, paired with lemuni rice, okra and chili padi, as well as lamb kuzi served with Terengganu style rice, cashew nut and acah buah. The menu also includes an exclusive heritage recipe of nyonya curry laksa passed down through different generations from Chef Wan’s family. Malaysia’s favourite sweet treat of “Goreng Pisang” also made it to the menu and has been given a Chef Wan twist as Deep-Fried Caramel Bananas.
Qatar Airways has been one of the few airlines that have remained in operations since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, and has maintained the Kuala Lumpur – Doha service throughout the pandemic period to provide global connectivity to the Malaysian market. Additionally, Qatar Airways also further enhanced its strategic partnership with Malaysia Airlines in May 2022 to launch a non-stop service from Kuala Lumpur to Doha. With this codeshare expansion, both airlines are currently operating a total of 14 weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Doha. This expansion benefits travellers from across the globe, providing them with a greater combined network and a seamless travel experience.
As travel restrictions ease, the national carrier of the State of Qatar continues to rebuild its network, which currently stands at over 150 destinations. With more frequencies being added to key hubs, Qatar Airways offers unrivalled connectivity to passengers, making it easy for them to change their travel dates or destination if they need to.
A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was recently announced as the ‘Airline of the Year’ at the 2021 World Airline Awards, managed by the international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax. It was also named ‘World’s Best Business Class’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Seat’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Onboard Catering’ and ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’. The airline continues to stand alone at the top of the industry having won the main prize for an unprecedented sixth time (2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021).
Qatar Airways has also become the first global airline in the world to achieve the prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by Skytrax. This follows the success of Hamad International Airport (HIA) as the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to be awarded a Skytrax 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating. These awards provide assurance to passengers across the world that the airline’s health and safety measures are subject to the highest possible standards of professional, independent scrutiny and assessment.
