Somersby debuts Shandy as festive refreshment for Chinese New Year

Somersby has expanded its product range with the launch of Somersby Shandy, marking the brand’s first foray into the shandy category and offering consumers a new refreshing option ahead of the Chinese New Year festive season.

Exclusively available in Malaysia and Singapore, Somersby Shandy combines the crisp zest of lemonade with a smooth hint of beer, delivering a light and refreshing taste with an alcohol content of just 0.5 per cent. Packaged in convenient 320ml cans, the new beverage reflects Somersby’s continued efforts to diversify beyond its well-known fruit cider offerings.

Designed to be best enjoyed chilled, Somersby Shandy is positioned as a drink suited for festive gatherings, from open house visits and reunion dinners to casual moments with family and friends. Its citrusy profile is aimed at complementing the warmth and joy associated with Chinese New Year celebrations.

Carlsberg Malaysia Marketing Director Olga Pulyaeva said the introduction of Somersby Shandy aligns with the brand’s ‘No-Nonsense’ philosophy, which focuses on uncomplicated and enjoyable drinking experiences.

“Somersby has always been driven by giving consumers fun, quality options that fit seamlessly into their lives. Somersby Shandy is our second innovation of the year and reflects our belief that great drinks do not need to be complicated – they simply need to taste good and bring people together,” she said.

Pulyaeva added that the new product further demonstrates Somersby’s evolution from a cider-focused brand to one that caters to a wider range of occasions and preferences, following the introduction of Somersby 0.0 and other offerings.

To enhance the festive experience, Somersby is collaborating with JYNNS for the third consecutive year to offer exclusive Chinese New Year gifts, alongside in-store sampling sessions at selected supermarkets nationwide. Consumers will have the opportunity to sample Somersby Shandy while shopping for festive essentials.

Somersby Shandy is available at participating supermarkets, hypermarkets and online platforms nationwide. Consumers are reminded that all Somersby activities are open to non-Muslims aged 21 and above, and the brand continues to advocate responsible consumption under the message, “If you drink, don’t drive.”
