Crafting Timeless Flavours, One Wok at a Time
Since opening its first restaurant in 2000, The Oriental Group of Restaurants has become one of Malaysia’s leading Chinese restaurant groups, celebrated for its refined Cantonese cuisine. Today, the group operates 14 multi-award-winning restaurants across the Klang Valley and Kuala Lumpur under the Oriental brand, including two non-pork establishments — Ruyi and YU.
Marking over two decades in hospitality, the group champions the spirit of “Malaysian Wok Hei” — the smoky, fire-kissed depth of flavour created by stir-frying at intense heat in a seasoned wok. This signature technique lies at the heart of great Cantonese cooking and defines many of Oriental’s most beloved dishes, which diners can enjoy in an atmosphere of comfort and understated luxury.
Among the must-try local favourites is Hokkien Mee — thick yellow noodles stir-fried and gently braised in a deeply savoury chicken, pork, and seafood stock. Glossy, aromatic, and rich with umami, it remains one of Kuala Lumpur’s most sought-after comfort dishes. No Cantonese dining experience is complete without fried rice, and The Oriental’s unique Soft Shell Crab Garlic Fried Rice is a signature highlight. Fragrant, indulgent, and lightly spiced, it reflects the diverse culinary influences that shape Malaysia’s vibrant food heritage.
The group takes pride in sourcing quality local ingredients, showcased in dishes such as panfried Wagyu beef cubes with aromatic Sarawak white pepper from East Malaysia. Across its restaurants, guests can choose from approximately 150 meticulously prepared dishes, crafted by a skilled team of Chinese sifus — true masters of the wok.
Freshness is paramount, and dim sum remains a daily ritual, handcrafted by experienced chefs each morning. A cornerstone of both Cantonese and Malaysian dining culture, dim sum is a social tradition centred around tea and shared small plates. Served daily from 11am to 2pm, favourites include delicate steamed and fried dumplings, fluffy buns with savoury fillings, and classic barbecue selections — all best enjoyed around a round table with family and friends, accompanied by a pot of Chinese tea.
To extend the experience beyond the restaurant, guests can purchase a curated selection of premium products, including Chinese loose-leaf teas, an 18-month first-draw soy sauce prized for its depth and balance, and The Oriental’s popular signature Teochew Spicy Sauce – freshly roasted daily, and is often referred to as “the sauce that can accompany almost EVERY culinary dish globally” , are now available at all 14 outlets.
