The Oriental Group Named in Malaysia Book of Records for the Biggest Dumpling Siu Mai Dim Sum
The Oriental Group of Restaurants proudly entered the Malaysia Book of Records by creating the Biggest Dumpling Siu Mai Dim Sum, a bold culinary showcase celebrating Malaysia’s love for dim sum and Cantonese cuisine.
The historic attempt took place at The Han Room, where Oriental Group’s master dim sum chefs crafted a gigantic siu mai dumpling — a beloved Cantonese classic — on an unprecedented scale. The event highlighted the artistry, craftsmanship and heritage behind traditional dim sum preparation while pushing culinary boundaries. Weighing more than 20kg, the siu mai became the largest dumpling siu mai ever created in the world.

This record-breaking initiative was made possible with the support of Lee Kum Kee, the internationally renowned sauce brand known for its authentic Asian condiments and culinary heritage. Established in 1888, Lee Kum Kee brings over 138 years of sauce-making heritage and expertise, and is globally recognised for its premium Asian sauces trusted by professional chefs around the world. In Malaysia, Lee Kum Kee has built a strong presence as a reliable partner to restaurants and culinary professionals, known for its quality, consistency and authentic flavour.
At the heart of this collaboration was Lee Kum Kee Premium Brand Oyster Sauce, which plays a key role in enhancing the flavour profile of the siu mai filling. Known for adding rich umami depth and a well-balanced savoury note, the sauce helps elevate the aroma and overall taste of the dish. Made using quality oyster extracts, it is trusted by professional kitchens for its consistency and its ability to bring out the natural taste of ingredients while enhancing texture and richness.

The collaboration between Lee Kum Kee and Oriental Group of Restaurants was rooted in a shared commitment to quality, authenticity and culinary excellence. Together, both brands contributed to Malaysia’s dynamic F&B landscape by championing great taste, culinary innovation and memorable dining experiences.
“We are incredibly excited to bring this ambitious idea to life,” said Lyn Siew, CMO for Oriental Group. “Dim sum is a cherished part of our culinary culture, and siu mai is one of its most iconic dishes. By this Malaysia Book of Records title, we hope to celebrate the spirit of Cantonese cuisine, bring our community together and showcase the creativity of our talented chefs.”
Beyond the record attempt itself, the initiative also celebrated the skill, dedication and craftsmanship of Malaysian chefs. It created excitement for diners while shining a spotlight on Malaysia’s vibrant and thriving restaurant scene, reflecting the innovation, passion and collaborative spirit that continue to drive the local culinary industry forward.

Representatives from the Malaysia Book of Records attended to verify the attempt, ensuring that the dumpling meets all official measurement and preparation criteria.
The Oriental Group has long been known for its dedication to authentic Cantonese cuisine, premium ingredients and memorable dining experiences. This record achievement continues the Group’s tradition of culinary excellence while adding a fun and ambitious milestone to Malaysia’s vibrant food scene.
