Dato’ Chef Ismail Ahmad – Elevating Malaysian Culinary Culture to the World Stage
Dato’ Chef Ismail Ahmad was born on December 6th, 1960, in Singapore – when it was still part of Tanah Melayu. Growing up in a traditional Negeri Sembilan household in Rembau, he was raised by his grandparents and is the third child among five siblings. He received his formal education in Rembau and then continued his studies in hospitality, culinary, and hotel school at ITM Shah Alam.
Dato’ Chef Ismail began his career as a lecturer at a private university college before deciding to pursue his passion for cooking. He went on to have stints at several notable hotels and restaurants. These days, he finds himself occupied as the owner of Food Parcel Sdn. Bhd, which operates the highly successful Restoran Rebung Chef Ismail Kuala Lumpur. Dato’ Chef Ismail is a familiar figure to many, being well-known in the book publishing scene and appearing in several international and local food and travel shows. He is also an ambassador, judge, and spokesperson for various cooking products and TV shows.
Dato’ Chef Ismail’s impressive profile has seen him become the face of many initiatives. He has been appointed the culinary ambassador for Tourism Malaysia and the “Bersih, Selamat dan Sihat or BeSS” ambassador for the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM). He has also been recognised as the culinary icon of UiTM. With his extensive experience in the culinary industry, Dato’ Chef Ismail actively represents Malaysia in promoting its unique culture, food, and heritage to the world. Generous with his knowledge and expertise, he frequently speaks at charity and corporate programmes across Malaysia.
