Chalet Edelweiss Unwind – Having a Good Time, Sustainably

Edelweiss’ first-ever Chalet Edelweiss Unwind kicked off on the 21st of October and it was non-stop fun for the three days after. An outdoor festival encouraging work-weary city dwellers to disconnect and unwind (it’s in the name!) in the cool, crisp air of the Resorts Awana Driving Range in Genting Highlands, the Asean Food & Travel team was invited to experience the very first day of festivities – and what a day it was!

An exceptional line-up of local, regional, and international artists

Local girl Silver Lim opened the act on the day and she most definitely impressed. Treating the crowd to soulful renditions of favourite classics alongside some well-crafted originals, she was an instant hit and a great segue into the following acts.

Crinkle Cut picked up where she left off and treated onlookers to their eclectic mix of R&B, funk, and jazz with a catchy pop influence. Daaliah had the crowd dancing as the sun set, injecting the night air with an electric feel and energy.

It was then time for the day’s headlining act, Jeremy Zucker. Best known for hits like “comethru”, “you were good to me”, and “all the kids are depressed”, Jeremy treated fans to an intimate performance, speaking to the crowd much how he would to a group of friends. A bit of rain couldn’t dampen everybody’s fun and in fact, probably added to the atmosphere if anything.

Chinese-American artist Karencici took over headlining duties on the second day and it was then left up to Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy to cap things off with a bang on the final day.

Cocktails, bites, and of course – beer

To soothe the throats tired from screaming for their favourite artists, cans of Edelweiss were readily available throughout, as well as a specially curated cocktail available only at the Alps Bar as long as the event ran. A snack bar with a variety of delightful bites ensured you wouldn’t have to drink on an empty stomach. Options ranged from local favourites to Western cuisine with even a specific menu featuring vegan choices.

Bringing the crowd closer to nature

Edelweiss didn’t want the crowd to just have a good time in nature, but come to appreciate their surroundings while they were at it. Attendees were treated to a guided sustainability trail walk where they got to take in picturesque views and enjoy the splendid greenery all around while learning about forest conservation. This was all a part of the Chalet Edelweiss Unwind programme which looked to promote sustainable environmental practices.

All in all, Chalet Edelweiss Unwind was a wonderful experience. Bringing together people, nature, drinks, and good music – a foolproof formula if there ever was one – the inaugural edition of the Edelweiss event will live long in the memories of those fortunate enough to have been there. Here’s to the next one!
